Hello companions!
This is a short update to let you know that we are now sending out version 0.8 of the Legend In The Mist Core Book playtesting PDF via DriveThruRPG as planned.
In addition to what has already been published, it contains the complete adventure design guide for the Narrator, as well as two series design models: The Mountain for an epic journey and The Crossroads for dynamic, fronts-based play. You can post your feedback on those in this dedicated Discord thread. We've also added some art and made extensive layout updates and corrections.
These were the last big chunks of the core book. On Wed, June 4th, we plan to drop version 0.9, which will be the complete and finished core book, minus some art we're still working on. Version 1.0 will follow with full art, marking the completion of this book!
Solo and Co-Op Modes are here!

Hello companions,
Solo/Co-Op and Narrator's Guide!
We are now sending the updated Core Book Playtesting PDF (v0.7) to all backers and late pledges via DriveThruRPG. Within the next few hours, you should receive an email invite to download this file from DriveThruRPG. If you encountered any issues, please reach out to [email protected].
(Only backers and late pledgers received this playtesting file. Pre-orderers will receive the file upon its official release.)
What's Inside
In addition to everything from previous updates, plus an update for the art in the book, you'll find the following:
An overhauled Introduction, including some suggestions on how to put together a group and what tools you'll need to play.
An overhauled Hero Chapter, with a redesigned "Your Hero" page showing a full character sheet, a redesigned "Taking Action" section showing the three types of action resolution more visually, an overhauled Might section, a "Fundamentals Of Magic" section moved over from Chapter 4: Cauldron of Magic, and a new visual style for deeper mechanics called "Delve Deeper" where more complex mechanics are marked with a torch and dark background, so you can know what to get into and what not (check out "Success Gives A Narrative Shield" as one of those first Delve Deeper sections!).
The first half of the Narrator's chapter, with comprehensive guides on how to run the game.
The Oracle (for Solo and Co-Op) (explained in the Narrator's chapter with tables in the Appendices) -- tables and tools to allow you to run this game without a dedicated Narrator -- in Solo or Co-Op, and for helping a classic Narrator make choices during the game.
What To Expect (Reminder)
This Core Book combines rustic with other genres to support any fantasy game, so it might feel a little more generic fantasy in some parts (although we still focus mainly on rustic fantasy). The setting book will lean into rustic fantasy will full force.
It's a playtesting copy, which means it's a **partial preview** of the core book meant to allow you to start playing the game and experiencing it.
Content-wise, it's a final draft. While not the absolute final version, what you find in the file represents the finished and complete product. We may yet make some changes, but we don't plan to make many.
Proofreading is in progress: some sections have been proofread and some not yet.
Art- and design-wise, it's a Work In Progress (WIP). Art is being added as it is created, but some art is still missing. The graphic design is in its final draft, but still being tweaked.
It's worth noting that most of our changes to the Hero section so far came from your feedback, so keep it coming and let us know if you think this is an improvement!
Next Drop
We're going to set a shorter next goal for next Friday, May 23rd to complete the layout of the Narrator's chapter. We also have the pregens to lay out, but they are waiting a full review by yours truly, so it's wise to assume they may not make it for the coming drop. Here's what we plan to release:
The second part of the Narrator's chapter, Designing Adventures And Series, with guides on how to do this for an epic campaign (e.g., for "Epic Journey" or "Dungeon Crawl" frames of play) or a dynamic, front-based campaign ("Grit & Politics" or "Our Little Corner Of The World" frames of play).
Summary pages, glossary, playthrough example, and indexes -- all awaiting layout next week, as well as some missing page references.
Almost Ready For Production
As we've shared, we've been working on all the elements of the campaign for some time now, and have locked in all the technical details of production. Here are a few Work In Progress shots to tease the senses, but remember none of these are final. Especially the dice - we want to change the acorns into more natural colors, and improve the texture on the pebbles. What do you think?
Until next week!

The Heap-Thing of Skunk Glen!

Hello there companions,
Starter Adventure Drops!
We are now sending the updated Core Book Playtesting PDF to all backers and late pledges via DriveThruRPG. Within the next few hours, you should receive an email invite to download this file from DriveThruRPG. If you encountered any issues, please reach out to [email protected].
(Only backers and late pledgers received this playtesting file. Pre-orderers will receive the file upon its official release.)
What's Inside
In addition to everything from previous updates, and an update for the art in the book, you'll find the Starter Adventure: The Heap-Thing Of Skunk Glen.
This is a wholesome-meets-eerie opening adventure inspired by folktales about a village festivity that goes awry, spiraling into a strange affair with a mysterious being. It's designed as both an opportunity to learn the game together AND the ideal "first chapter" in a campaign (whether focused on a village or on a journey), where we get to know the Heroes and their origin environment -- the place they likely will be fighting to save later on!
The adventure is set in the official Hearts of Ravensdale setting, in Ravenhome (the same village as the Demo Game), but you can easily play it in any original village or setting you've created for your Legend In The Mist game.
What's Not Inside (Yet!)
While we promised the Narrator chapter and Solo rules, and though we've worked intensively to share them with you, these are just not ready to roll out yet. We're reworking the chapter so that GMless play, and specifically our new Oracle tools, are built into the Narrator chapter in a way that anyone can use them for solo play, co-op play, or just to help Narrators roll up a scene when you're not sure where to take the story next. We will also collect all the Oracles and rules in a few handy reference pages.
We have also have crafted the 16 pregen character folios which will feature characters from the Hearts of Ravensdale setting -- from villagers and wandering Dalespeople to hedge magic practitioners, Creatures of Twilight, and Thaumaturges -- and yet these can be used in any setting. They are waiting for your truly's (Amit's) final review and then we'll forge them into beautiful character sheets for you all.
So, there is certainly a lot that has been done but is not yet visible, and we hope to share it with you as soon as possible.
Prrofreading has not yet been applied.
Art- and design-wise, it's a Work In Progress (WIP). Art is being added as it is created, but some art is still missing. The graphic design is in its final draft, but still being tweaked.
What's Next?
Adventure Feedback
Get a group going and run the starter adventure! We will be taking feedback through the Discord server (invite here) where there is already a thread in the #feedback channel for the starter adventure feedback.
Next Drop
We're going to give ourselves a good chunk of time to polish off all that has been done and share the full book + pregens on May 16th. Work on the Hearts of Ravensdale book is also in full swing and we hope to share more of that in the upcoming drops.
Preparing For Print
While there is still substantial work on the PDFs, we're lining up print operations to be able to print items in separate phases, so that items that are complete can begin printing. We hope this will prevent a congestion around print operations (by reducing the number of titles printing simultaneously) and help minimize delays. More on this as we get closer to the date.

That's it for now, companions! Go ahead and dive into The Heap-Thing Of Skunk Glen and stay tuned for more updates soon,

Release Schedule Update, Free RPG Day, and Livestream tomorrow
about 1 year ago
– Tue, Apr 22, 2025 at 09:40:00 AM
If you meet a bargaining devil on the trail, be very careful what you terms you accept. More Challenge art by the incredible Mark Hretskyi!
Hi Companions,
Our apologies for the delayed release! While our release schedule was momentarily disrupted by the launch of the Cairo:OS Kickstarter (a necessary step to line up work for later this year and into 2026), we are back on track.
The Revised Drop Schedule
Our next drop will be on May 1st, and we plan to include the starter adventure and sections of Chapter 2, the Narrator, which will also include the solo rules (!!!). With that, we will be approaching the final form of the core book. We're also taking into account all the feedback we received from you and will make significant changes to the structure and of the book based on that. Proofreading is halfway done for published sections, and art is approaching completion. The end of this part of the journey is in sight!
Following that, we will release the character pack pregens and begin releasing the Hearts of Ravensdale Setting Book chapters which we've been working on.
Playtesting Window is Closing!
With this, we're also nearing the end of the playtesting period (although there will be at least one month available for playtesting with the full book, and with solo rules). If you haven't put together a group to try this game out yet, or if you haven't shared your insights with us on the Discord #feedback threads, please do! (Discord invite here)
FREE RPG Day is coming!
If you're looking to get your friends into Legend In The Mist, this Free RPG Day - June 21st - is your chance! We'll be offering free copies of the demo game in Friendly Local Game Stores worldwide, so make sure your local store knows about this (they are probably already participating in Free RPG day, but just to be sure).
